Welcome to our site....

The Silent Ripples Beginning

Silent Ripples Inc. was formed in January 2010 after a need was identified for a support group for people who were grieving from a bereavement of a family member or friend through suicide.  The group was named after a comment from one of the members.  Bill was describing how a suicide affects everyone who knows that person.  There is a rippling effect, that reaches well beyond the immediate family of the person who suicides.

Unfortunately, Bill, who gave us this name, passed away but not through suicide.  We felt he had gained so much from the group in his short time with us, that we wanted to provide a way by which he would always be remembered.  Bill's legacy lives on in the group's name and this will continue to provide support to people for a long time to come.  On the last night that we saw Bill we knew he was more optimistic about his future and his ability to deal with his loss of a friend to suicide.  We now believe that he is able to rest in peace.

Silent Ripples Mission Statement

Silent Ripples Inc. is a support group that provides support and resources to those in the community who have been impacted by loss through suicide.

The group identifies its main objective as providing a supportive environment to assist in the healing process.  The other main area of focus is to raise and maintain community awareness about suicide with the aim of reducing its incidence.

Silent Ripples Inc. provides services to all those in the community seeking support regardless of gender, age, religion or cultural background.

When suicide occurs those left behind often find, for various reasons, that their social connections with the broader community are diminished.

Attending the group provides members with the opportunity to re-establish social networks in a safe and understanding environment.  Eventually, this facilitates re-engagement with the broader community and life in general.

We are hoping to be able to provide a wide range of credible resources to offer support for our readers who may be suffering to find answers in the dark times.

On our Other Support Services page you will find links to other relevant sites and pages that have been of help to members of the group.  Also we have listed some of the professional services available.

"The dragonfly emerging from the ripples in a pond is our emblem as it is symbolic of our journey.

The dragonfly lays its eggs in the water after which they sink to the bottom of the pond where the larvae hatch.  They then remain there in the darkness until they emerge up through the water, breaking free from their darkness into the light".
